The teacher concludes that at the end of the day remember that you will account to God for all that you do. I want us to consider the word account here. Usually when we read this word we usually think of it in a judgemental and scary way. I usually think of it as a day of judgement where God is calling me to like explain how I spent my time, where I spent my time and with whom I spent my time. I really think of it like a divine spreadsheet is being recorded and taking account of what I am doing quantitatively and qualitatively with my life. However, basic googling tells me that the word account is an old French word. I read on Mirriam Webster that it means to reckon. To reckon and when I saw or heard the word reckon I thought reconciliation. Which is to join things together or join the dots of two things together. This to me meant answering the whys behind my whats. It is not “the what” that matters or that will hold more weight but it is “the why”.
